Our First Week of Homeschooling

It’s been a little more than week since we started homeschooling.

Mateo has shown a LOT of enthusiasm for homeschooling. So much enthusiasm that it’s the first thing we do after breakfast. I was initially planning on homeschooling for only about 30-40 minutes a day depending on his mood (not counting the unstructured playtime he gets the rest of the day).

What I wasn’t expecting was his not wanting to ever end our morning sessions, as well as his constant begging of “Let’s do homeschool!” after waking up from his afternoon nap. As a result, we wind up doing activities I had planned for later that week/the following week. This means lots and lots of researching for mommy! I don’t mind though. Researching is a lot of fun! Besides, how are we supposed to encourage a love for learning in our children if we say no when they want to learn?

I love how I’m getting a front /row seat to his learning. I’m marvelling at how quickly he picks up new information, as well as how quickly he can use up a bottle of glue. Haha! Seriously though, I’m able to take note of what methods work and what doesn’t work and hopefully apply this to make the learning process even more interesting for him.

I know it’s only been a week and that we’re sure to hit more than a few roadbumps, but I’m optimistic that with God’s grace, this arrangement is going to work for our family . ❤
